Otoplasty is the correction of prominent ears that are more separated than normal from the head, popularly known as “protruding ears”.

Surgery should be performed when the ears have finished developing, generally from 15 to 16 years of age. Sometimes, it can cause social disorders in children and in these cases,it can be performed at a younger age.

An incision is made behind the ear, leaving an inconspicuous, virtually invisible scar. From this incision, the cartilage of the ear is remodeled, improving the shape and position of the ear.

Depending on the age of the patient to be treated, ear surgery can be performed under general or local anesthesia and usually takes between 45 minutes to an hour.

The earlobes can tear due to accidents with earrings or even become deformed and elongated due to the use of large earrings for years. Correction of the torn lobe and reduction of its size are the surgical procedures of choice for these cases.
